Sprint to discontinue the iPhone 4 in-store, will continue to sell online
Sprint is getting ready to discontinue in-store sales of the iPhone 4 following the launch of the iPhone 5. Leaked internal documents show pricing for the iPhone 5 as well as discounted pricing for the iPhone 4S along with a note about the iPhone 4 being discontinued.
If you were planning on snatching up an iPhone 4 at your local Sprint store, you may have to order it online instead. A Sprint spokesperson confirmed to CNET that stores will no longer carry the device but customers will still be able to order it online.
"iPhone 4 will become a Web only device effective on September 21. We will certainly still be selling it,"
With the iPhone 4S starting at only $99, it will most likely sell very well across all carriers as a better priced option to the new iPhone 5. The leaked documents showed that the iPhone 4 would be removed from planograms as of September 21st. After that date you'll have to order the iPhone 4 online through Sprint. No pricing has been given but we'd assume it would replace the iPhone 3GS as the free iPhone spot as it will on other carriers. The only difference is that you'll have to sign up for service online as opposed to in the store.

Google releases new Java to iOS source code translator
Developers have their work cut out. Even if we (impolitely) sidestep the likes of Windows Phone, BlackBerry and the rest, those coders often have to pitch their work across web, iOS and Android. Google's trying to make that job a little easier, introducing a new tool that automatically converts Java source code into Objective-C, which is used in iPad and iPhone apps. While the J2ObjC tool can't tackle the UI for these, it does allow developers to craft other parts (including data access and nuts-and-bolts programming) into an easily shareable code without editing. Some existing Google projects already utilize the new translator, but its results remains a little temperamental -- the tool hasn't translated all possible paths just yet, and many Java devs have, according to the project page, "a slightly different way of using Java."

A rough winter could boost Compass shares: Barron's
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Predictions of a nasty North American winter with heavy snowfall might revive the shares of Compass Minerals International Inc, a major maker of rock salt used to de-ice roads, financial weekly Barron's said on Sunday.
The Overland Park, Kansas-based company's results and shares have been bogged down after reduced rock salt demand from U.S. and Canadian cities and towns following the warmest winter in two decades, Barron's said.
Rock salt sales account for approximately 80 percent of Compass's annual revenues. It owns the world's biggest rock salt mine in Goderich, Ontario.
Compass also makes fertilizer for fruits, vegetables and nut trees.
About 90 percent of the time, an unusually warm winter with below-average snowfall is followed by one with 10 percent to 25 percent above-average snowfall, Barron's said, citing the forecasting firm of Weather Trends International.
If heavier snowfall occurs and rock salt demand rebounds this coming winter, Compass could earn $5.15 a share next year, up from an expected $3.43 this year and $4.79 last year, the Barron's report said.
This could raise its price/earnings multiple to up to 17 times its 2013 estimated earnings, up from the current 14 times. This means Compass stock could be worth about $90 a share, the paper said.
On Friday, Compass shares closed down 0.9 percent at $72.13. They have traded in a range from $63 to $81.29 in the past 52 weeks.

Italy gov't demands Fiat clarify industrial plans
ROME (AP) ? Two Italian Cabinet ministers have demanded that carmaker Fiat, which controls Chrysler, clarify its plans for investments in Italian plants amid mounting concern over possible closures.
Economic Development Minister Corrado Passera said the government isn't interfering in Fiat's decision-making but that its concern is justified, given Fiat's importance in Italy. He criticized what he called a series of "too many unclear and unintelligible communiques" concerning Fiat's future.
Labor Minister Elsa Fornero said she had approached Fiat for a meeting, reminding the automaker it had a responsibility to its workers, not just shareholders.
Italy's largest employer reiterated Thursday that it would provide details about its plans during an earnings call Oct. 30. Sales in Italy, Fiat's main market in Europe, dropped by 20 percent in the first six months of 2012.
