The Wellington Soccer Club Blue U9 boys travel team visited the Palms West Hospital Pediatric Unit April 1. The boys assembled Easter baskets and delivered them to the children. It was a very rewarding experience for the boys, their parents and siblings, and most importantly for the staff, children and families at Palms West Hospital, team manager Jenny Caro said.
The Wellington Recreation Soccer U12 girls Red team finished unbeaten in spring soccer competition. Team members are: Ransey Rothenberg, Kara Parson, Chelsea Fenimore, Kayla Gumula, Isabel Duke, Jennae Jacob, Camila Ramirez and Katrina Calkins. JR Ramirez and Toni Calkins are the coaches.
The 12 Pack girls flag football team placed second in the U19 division at the Amateur Athletic Union Womens Flag Football National Championship in Orlando. The competition was held March 4-6 at ESPNs Wide World of Sports Complex. The 12 Pack lost 20-19 in overtime to the Nemesis of Palm Beach Gardens in the title game. Team members are: Shannon Dearujo, Bianca Lagos, Kristy Rhemer, Megan OHara, Brooke Collier, Sydney Shivers, Casey Turek, Jenna Malsbury, Kelsey Strickland, Morgan Lauer and Michele Valero. Acreage Athletic League Pirates pitcher Kylan Barnett, 12, pitched a perfect game March 31 in his teams 2-0 Major Division victory against the Tigers at Community Park. Barnett is a seventh-grader at Western Pines Middle School.
Quarterback Adam Proch accounted for five touchdowns to lead the Florida Gators to a 34-12 win over the Texas Longhorns in a WCFL Varsity Flag Football game April 16 in Wellington. Proch threw for two touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass, rushed for a score and returned an interception for a touchdown. The Gators improved to 2-4-1 with the win.
