No kickoffs for Packers' Cobb; could there be no kickoffs in NFL, period?

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers are considering taking steps to remove a dangerous kick returner from his job. Ironically, the NFL may be simultaneously considering taking the often-dangerous kick return out of the game itself.Packers WR Randall Cobb is an explosive kick returner. He burst onto the seen in his first NFL game with a 108 yard return against the New Orleans Saints in 2011.Since then, Cobb has had a firm grasp on the kick returner job, helping give the Packers great field position and racking up over 1900 yards in two years on kick returns. In 2011, Cobb was a returner and then a receiver. He gained more than three times as many yards returning both punts and kicks than he did as a wide out.But in 2012, Cobb became a more integral part of the Packers offense. With injuries to both Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson, Cobb was in on 56% of the Packers offensive plays in 2012 and was targeted 104 times. After contributing just shy of a 1,000 receiving yards to the team, and rising in the ranks of the wide receivers there was a push to take Cobb off of kickoff returns. Why risk what was becoming a valuable offensive assest? After Jeremy Ross?s costly mistake of muffing a punt last post season, the Packers have tried a variety of players at returner.A week into camp, no one has stepped up and taken the job away from Cobb. But the NFL might have another solution for the Packers. Football is a dangerous game and kickoffs are the most dangerous. In the 2011 season the NFL moved kick offs up five yards and found that the following year, there were 40% fewer concussions on kickoffs. In December of 2012, NFL Commission Roger Goodell floated the idea of eliminating kickoffs all together. While the returner is the focus of the play, kickoffs are just as dangerous for the other players on the field.Gunners, blockers, players barreling down the field full speed; in 2010 the injury rate on kickoffs was 2%, a higher percentage than any other type of play. When players take the field for the 2013 Pro Bowl, there will be something noticeably absent. There will be no kickoffs. In a meaningless game, what?s the point of having the most dangerous play? But is the NFL testing the waters in the Pro Bowl to see if eliminating the kickoff is a viable option across the board? The Packers might be looking for a new returner for the 2013 season, but is it possible that the kick returner job won?t exist after 2013? The Uruguayan Congress is debating President Jose Mujica's proposal to fight organized crime by legalizing the production and sale of marijuana. A vote is expected late Wednesday, July 31, 2013 on the proposal to license growers, sellers and consumers, with a confidential registry to keep people from buying more than 40 grams a month. Anyone carrying, growing or selling pot without a license would face stiff penalties including long prison terms. (AP Photo/Matilde Campodonico, File)

(AP) ? Uruguay is poised to become the first nation to create a legal, regulated marijuana market, encouraging growers and sellers to produce enough pot to keep users from depending on illegal drug traffickers.

The plan to put the government at the center of a legal marijuana industry has made it halfway through the congress, giving President Jose Mujica a long-sought victory in his effort to explore alternatives to the global war on drugs.

"I'm an old man ... I never smoked marijuana, but I have come to notice what the life of young people is like," Mujica said Thursday in a radio address defending the proposal that was approved late Wednesday by congress' lower house. "The consumption is already happening ? it's around every corner, and it comes from a clandestine market that by nature has ferocious rules. It's a monopoly of mafias."

Mujica said that for every 10 deaths by drug overdose, there are 100 people murdered by drug traffickers or shot down in the fight against organized crime.

"The worst thing of all is that it never ends!" he said. "How many keep falling? And drugs are still out there ? why? Because the profits are enoooooormous!"

The move drew both praise and criticism Thursday as word spread that 50 of 96 lawmakers in the lower house of congress had voted in favor. It now goes to the Senate, where approval is expected.

Smoking pot has long been legal in Uruguay, but growing, carrying, buying or selling has called for prison terms. If the legislation is enacted, licensed adults will be able to have marijuana for any reason, including medicinal, recreational and industrial uses.

"Sometimes small countries do great things," said Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the U.S. Drug Policy Alliance. "Uruguay's bold move does more than follow in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington. It provides a model for legally regulating marijuana that other countries, and U.S. states, will want to consider - and a precedent that will embolden others to follow in their footsteps."

The U.S. government, faced with its own legalization movement at the state level, such as in Colorado and Washington, largely stayed out of the Uruguayan debate, leaving people like Pope Francis to speak out against the "liberalization of drugs" during his recent trip to Brazil. It fell to the United Nations' International Narcotics Control Board to criticize the vote in Uruguay as violating the country's treaty obligations.

"INCB urges the Uruguayan authorities to ensure that the country remains fully compliant with international law which limits the use of narcotic drugs, including cannabis, exclusively to medical and scientific purposes," the agency said.

But Uruguay's determination to legalize pot was lauded by many, including Terry Nelson, a former U.S. Border Patrol agent who now advocates for ending the drug war as part of the Law Enforcement Against Prohibition group.

"This bill ensures a safer Uruguay and it should be a model for the world," Nelson said. "The passage of this bill will allow police to spend their time and resources on violent crime, devastate criminal networks in the country who rely on marijuana income, create jobs, generate tax revenue, and ensure the quality and safety of the product for those who choose to use it."

The global drug war's heavy death toll, questionable results and high costs to treasuries and freedoms prompted former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to join a growing number of former world leaders in declaring the war a failure and calling for marijuana legalization.

In Latin America, Presidents Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia and Otto Perez Molina of Guatemala have called for decriminalizing drugs, and the Organization of American States is openly encouraging new approaches. Jose Miguel Inzulza, the OAS secretary-general, personally visited Mujica and praised the initiative ahead of the house vote.

Mujica, who says he never smoked pot himself, said regulating marijuana is necessary because so many people already do, thus endangering themselves and the nation by fostering organized crime.

His critics said licensing marijuana will only encourage more people to become addicted to narcotics.

"I believe that we're risking too much. I have the sensation that we're playing with fire," said Gerardo Amarilla, a lawmaker in Uruguay's opposition National Party.

Under the proposal, Uruguay's government would license growers, sellers and consumers, and update a confidential registry to keep people from buying more than 40 grams a month at pharmacies.

Carrying, growing or selling pot without a license could bring prison terms, and driving under the influence would be punishable as well. But licensed consumers could grow up to six plants at a time at home, and growing clubs with up to 45 members each would be encouraged, overseen by an Institute for Regulation and Control of Cannabis.

Autonet Mobile puts a new twist on the car key video

Remember Autonet? The company -- which is best known for providing manufacturers like Chrysler with in-car WiFi hotspot solutions -- is launching a new product designed to replace the key fob and enable low-latency remote vehicle control and diagnostics from any smartphone. Of course, this is nothing new -- car makers have been featuring apps to unlock doors, start the engine and monitor vehicles for some time now. Still, most existing solutions rely on satellite or 2G connectivity and often require the car's computer to be fully booted before responding to commands, which makes for a slow and unreliable experience. Autonet's new system combines in-vehicle hardware, mobile software and cloud services to streamline this process for both manufacturers and owners. More after the break.

Golf: Ko makes solid start at St Andrews

Lydia Ko has made her best start to a major golf tournament this year, finishing with a three-under par 69 in the opening round of the women's British Open.

She is in a 20-way tie for 18th, three shots off co-leaders Morgan Pressel of the United States and Sweden's Camilla Lennarth.

The 16-year-old amateur looked more comfortable than her professional playing partners Lexi Thompson and Chie Arimura (both 75), despite a double bogey on the seventh and bogeys on the second and 15th (all par fours). She recovered to shoot seven birdies, including two to finish. Ko is level with world no.1 Inbee Park of South Korea who is pursuing an unprecedented fourth straight major.

Ko's measured temperament, driving accuracy (13 out of 16 fairways) and stable putting (29 strokes) helped her embrace the occasion at the Old Course as it hosts the tournament for the second time.

"I got angrier after that [double bogey]. It made me want to play better. I was boiling away but the birdie on the next hole [the par three eighth] put me on the right track."

The world no.17 was thrilled to complete the back nine holes in four-under par.

"I think that is harder [than the front nine]. The two birdies were a great way to finish."

"John", a local caddy, also helped with his intimate knowledge of course measurements and conditions.

"The course is largely flat but the greens are undulating so it was good getting help in pressure positions," Ko said. "That flatness means it is harder to see dangers like bunkers. He also helped me line up to the target."

Ko's Mum Bonsuk and coach Guy Wilson observed the teenager's progress first hand.

Wilson says the use of the local caddy was a conscious move.

"As an amateur Lydia doesn't have someone on the bag week-to-week so it's important to pick someone who's a good fit. Knowledge about playing the right lines and conditions are vital. John has done that so far."

The coach admitted to being a touch nervous early.

"Especially with the double bogey. She had a rare poor tee shot, got a bad bounce and paid the price. I thought 'oh God, the last thing we want is to be making plans to leave early', but Lydia kicked herself into action and made a string of birdies.

"She played patient golf. Inside she might've been angry but I don't think you'd ever see any of it. The driver tends to be one of her safe clubs, she doesn't hit too many wide ones. If you miss a fairway here you're looking at bogey straight away."

After a spot of lunch, the afternoon was spent working on her pitching and putting.
"The greens were damp and quite skiddy. We've got to manage that better if it rains tomorrow," Wilson said.

Patchy drizzle became heavier later in the afternoon before fining up. Ko finished her round shortly after midday so missed the worst of it.

Ko has three top-40 finishes at the majors this season - a tie for 25th at the Kraft Nabisco championship, a tie for 17th at the Wegmans LPGA championship and a tie for 36th at the women's United States Open. The final major, the Evian championship, will be held in France next month.

Protect the Public-Make Big Rigs Safer | Feroleto Law - Personal ...

Yesterday, we discussed?allowing vehicles to talk to each other. The recommendation, in part, stems from two school bus accidents. In New Jersey last year a?dump truck crashed into the rear left side of the school bus in an intersection spinning the bus into a pole. The bus accident killed an 11-year-old girl and seriously injured others. The next month a tractor-trailer truck hit the side rear of the school bus, spinning the bus around. This bus ? truck accident?caused the death of the child and seriously injured other children.

?This technology, more than anything else holds a great promise to protect lives and prevent injuries.? Debra Herstman, chair of the NSTB has stated. This is particularly true of intersection accidents, T-bone accidents and side impact crashes. From 2002- 2011 approximately 87,000 people were killed in intersection accidents. This accounted for 22% of all traffic?fatalities.

Let?s face it, some the drivers aren?t paying attention, maybe texting,?talking on the phone, tired, aggravated or otherwise distracted. Mandating use of?the technology, particularly in big rigs such as tractor-trailers, 18 wheelers and other large trucks would be a good start. They represent a small? percentage of the vehicles on the road, but are involved in a disproportionate percentage of fatal accident??and serious injury collisions.? The sooner the better.

John Feroleto has represented injured individuals for nearly thirty years with multi-million dollar results for his clients. Known for hard work, Mr. Feroleto is well respected in the legal community and is often asked to handle trial matters by other attorneys.

Massive explosions rock central Fla. gas plant

TAVARES, Fla. (AP) ? A series of explosions rocked a central Florida propane gas plant and sent "boom after boom after boom" through the neighborhood around it. Eight people were injured, with at least four in critical condition.

John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said early Tuesday there were no fatalities despite massive blasts that ripped through the Blue Rhino propane plant late Monday night. Officials initially scrambled to find more than a dozen employees after the explosions.

"Management is comfortable saying all of those they knew were there tonight have been accounted for," he said.

Tavares Fire Chief Richard Keith said possible causes of the explosion may be either equipment malfunction or possibly human error. Sabotage was not suspected.

One person injured in the explosion was listed in critical condition at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital and three others were listed in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Herrell said some others drove themselves to area hospitals.

Tavares Battalion Commander Eric Wages said five workers walked up to a command center firefighters set up near the plant Monday night with skin hanging off their arms, torso and faces. He said their arms were outstretched and they were in complete shock.

The Blue Rhino plant, which is northwest of Orlando, refilled propane tanks typically used for barbecues and other uses. There were some 53,000 20-gallon tanks at the plant on Monday.

Herrell said a crew of 24 to 26 people was working the overnight shift when the explosions occurred around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Tuesday morning, smoke still billowed from a storage container on the property, which consists of a couple of warehouses next to each other. The parking lot was littered with thousands of blackened 20-gallon propane containers.

Nearby, three 33,000-pound tanks of propane sat untouched. Lake County Battalion Chief Chris Croughwell said the hoses designed to spray water on the large tanks in case of fire, did not go off as planned because they had to be manually activated. "Most sane people don't stick around for an event like this," he added.

Tavares Mayor Robert Wolfe said Tuesday that he was surprised to learn the hoses at the plant had to be manually activated. If Blue Rhino reopens the plant, Wolfe said he plans to raise the safety issue. "That way, it's fail safe," Wolfe said. "We're lucky those tanks didn't explode."

Croughwell said firefighters who responded to the initial fire had to wait to enter plant site because conditions were so dangerous. Just as they were finally about to go in, four tractor trailers parked next to the large propane tanks caught fire.

If the large tanks exploded, Croughwell said, "it would have wiped us out."

Video footage on WESH-TV in Orlando showed fires burning through trucks used to transport propane tanks, which were parked at the plant. The fire sent plumes of smoke into the air hours after the blast.

Keith said the explosions shook his house several miles from the plant. "It truly sounded like a car hit our house," he said.

Herrell said about 50 homes were evacuated Monday night but residents were allowed back in about four hours later.

Marni Whitehead, 33, who lives less than a mile from the plant, said she was in bed ready to go to sleep when she heard a loud boom.

She ran outside and saw other neighbors outside and then they saw the explosions.

"We knew right away it was the plant, the propane plant," Whitehead said. "After that, it was just sort of panic."

Whitehead likened the explosions to Fourth of July fireworks. "And it was just boom after boom after boom," she said.

Herrell said officials believe the fire was contained and wouldn't spread to another part of the plant.

According to the Leesburg Daily Commercial, the plant was built in 2004 and employs fewer than 50 people.

Cancer vaccines: CDC admits, then retracts statistics

98 million Americans were injected with vaccines containing cancer virus

Lance Johnson
Natural News
July 30, 2013

The Centers for Disease Control recently published valuable information about polio vaccines on their site, but afterwards retracted the information.?Why has that information been taken down??Regardless, a Google snapshot of this information as it appeared on July 11, 2013 is cached here:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com

The saved CDC information comes right out and admits that more than 98 million Americans during a span of eight years were injected with a cancer-causing polyomavirus called SV40.

This fact alone should serve as a testament to anyone: always question medical professionals who say that you or your child needs a certain vaccine or prescription. So much ?medicine? today is actually poison. Professionals are often duped into?believing in?the safety of a vaccine or prescription, when all along it may be laced with cancer-causing, health ravaging virus, heavy metals, fungus, formaldehyde, or neurotoxins.

What is SV40?

SV40 stands for Simian vacuolating virus 40 and was found in monkeys in 1960. This polyomavirus existed in contaminated batches of polio vaccinations in the 50s and early 60s. Fragments of this virus have shown up in human brain, bone, and lung cancers. This virus is known for causing cancerous tumors.

  • A d v e r t i s e m e n t

Uniquely, humans have built in tumor-suppressing genes. The?SV40?virus effectively disables those genes, suppressing them through the SV40 T-antigens. This leads to mutated genes that spawn uncontrollable cellular proliferation, leading to cancer.

Michele Carbone, Assistant Professor of pathology at Loyola University in Chicago, has recently found fragments of the SV40 virus in 40% of human bone cancers and in 60% of mesothelioma cancers.

Experts in the field are beginning to conclude that the Salk and Sabin?polio vaccines?were responsible for injecting cancer-causing viral strains into people, mutating their genes and welcoming epidemics of cancer.

The contaminated vaccine has been estimated to have adversely affected 10 to 30 million people.

The discovery of SV40

SV40 was first found by Dr. Bernice Eddy when she studied the minced kidney cells of rhesus monkeys. ?The cells would die without any apparent cause,? she reported. Taking the cells from the monkey?s kidney cultures, Dr. Eddy injected them into hamsters. Merck & Co. soon discovered this?virus, which was identified and isolated by Dr. Eddy. It was named Simian Virus 40 because it was the 40th virus found in monkey kidney cells. In 1960, the discovery was complete. Merck scientists Dr. Benjamin Sweet and Dr. Maurice Hillman published the findings. Dr. Eddy went on to publish more information about the SV40 virus. A single dose was injected into 13 newborn hamsters and 10 newborn mice. What followed was cellular neoplasms that developed between 156 and 380 days.

Still though, at the time, medical professionals defended the SV40 tainted polio vaccines, despite the published dangers of the SV40 virus contaminating the vaccines.

A more recent report, published in 2005 by the the National Network for Immunization Information, downplays the situation:

?Although SV40 has biological properties consistent with a cancer-causing virus, it has not been conclusively established whether it has caused?cancer?in humans,? said the report. ?Epidemiological studies of groups of people who received polio vaccine during 1955-1963 do not show an increased
cancer risk.?

With the CDC coming out and admitting that millions of Americans were exposed to cancer causing SV40 viruses in the polio vaccines between 1955 and 1963, there will be increased skepticism about vaccinations in the years to come.

Maybe that?s why billionaire vaccine pushers made the?CDC?take this important information off their site.

Regardless, now you know. Always make an informed decision. Don?t automatically trust a medical professional when they say, ?you need this vaccine.?

The Rise of the Apple TV: What should be Apple's next step?

The Rise of the Apple TV

Frost & Sullivan recently reported that Apple TV made up more than half of the streaming device market for 2012, beating competitors like Roku and TiVo. Not bad for something that Steve Jobs once referred to as "a hobby" for the company. What should be Apple's next step for the little black box?

First, let's put that news into some context. The Apple TV is the most popular streaming box out there, according to this report - and that's a device that Apple doesn't separately report in its quarterly revenue figures. In fact, the Apple TV's contribution to Apple's balance sheet this past quarter is buried in the "Accessories" portion of its quarterly statement, which for the most recently reported quarter was $1.18 billion (out of $35.23 billion in total revenue).

Compared to the gargantuan revenues of the iPhone ($18.15 billion), the sizable revenues of the iPad ($6.37 billion), or even the Mac ($4.89 billion), that Accessories number is pretty small - especially when you consider that it includes all other Apple-branded hardware peripherals, and accessories made for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

But Tim Cook did offer details earlier this year that may give some insight about the success of the Apple TV. In May, Cook said that Apple has sold 13 million Apple TVs to date. About half of those were sold within the previous year, Cook revealed.

That's an average of almost 1.63 million Apple TVs sold each quarter. At $100 a piece, that's $163 million in Apple's coffers from Apple TV each quarter. Some quick back of the envelope math suggests that Apple TV is contributing a little less than 14 percent to Apple's overall "Accessories" revenue numbers. Small potatoes for Apple's balance sheets, perhaps, but if Frost & Sullivan's analysis is correct, a huge chunk of the streaming box market. Apple's biggest competitor, Roku, grabs less than half the remaining pie, according to the report. Other competitors divide what remains into even smaller slivers.

The Apple TV has been around for six years and is already in its third hardware generation. Apple doubling its installed base of Apple TVs in the last twelve months certainly indicates that public momentum for the device is picking up.

But the overall small numbers demonstrate just how nascent the streaming box market really is. While many of us Apple enthusiasts have bought Apple TV, there are still a huge number of consumers who don't find the device particularly useful or interesting, or feel that their TV viewing needs are serviced well enough by cable TV, DVRs and other set-top devices.

Apple's gobbled up a huge piece of a very small pie. But that small market is growing.

Where does Apple go from here?

The second and third generation Apple TV - the small black box - lacks any sort of local storage capability, but makes up for it by being more programmable than its predecessor. Not only is it easily updatable with firmware improvements and other enhancements, but it can be programmed with entirely new apps.

In mid June, Apple rolled out an update for the Apple TV that added support for several new content services including ESPN, HBO, subscription-based anime service Crunchyroll and more.

Some analysts and pundits hope to see the Apple TV become a disruptive technology for television watching - something that people could use in place of cable television altogether. And indeed, some Apple TV users find the content from iTunes, Netflix, Hulu and the other services the Apple TV supports to be sufficient for their viewing habits.

But it's clear that Apple is taking a more iterative approach with the device - an approach that requires customers to have other media at their disposal. Take HBO Go, for example. The app works the same way on the Apple TV that it does on the iPhone and iPad - you can stream HBO content, including current and archived TV series, but it requires you to validate by entering your cable service provider account information first. You can't subscribe to the service a la carte, as it were.

Tim Cook describes a "grand vision" for the Apple TV and calls television itself an "area of intense interest" for the company, but so far he hasn't publicly articulated what that vision is.

According to Frost & Sullivan, the secret to the Apple TV's success is AirPlay, which enables iOS devices and Macs to stream audio and video content to the Apple TV. AirPlay is the killer app for the Apple TV, because it enhances the experience of users of other Apple products by making it easier for them to share content on their television.

Apple implicitly understands this - the company's executives have spoken for years about the "halo effect" of people buying one Apple product and having a great experience with it, then that driving their purchase of more Apple hardware. To that end, AirPlay is getting a big boost in OS X Mavericks, due out later this year. Apple TV owners can already mirror the Mac's display to their television. But with Mavericks' improved Multiple Display support, Mac users will be able to use an Apple TV-connected television as a completely independent display.

The television question

Analysts like Gene Munster have long prognosticated that Apple will build an actual television, but the economics of doing so don't make a lot of sense, at least not right now. Flat panel TVs are an increasingly commodity-drive market, with inexpensive Chinese manufacturers flooding the market with cheap sets you can buy at Walmart and Target.

There may be a window for some new brands to be established in the Ultra HDTV market - the new 4K sets that are coming out. Apple could leverage its legendary supply line muscle with Chinese manufacturers to produce 4K televisions.

And Apple does appear to be making a play for 4K on some of its hardware, like the new Mac Pro, which will feature Thunderbolt 2 interfaces capable of driving 4K resolution displays. But that's a technology that is squarely focused on the high end of Apple's Mac line at the moment, and for the Mac Pro that makes a lot of sense: it's a machine that's historically had a high penetration in the professional digital video and film editing market.

But what, ultimately, would an actual Apple television - 4K or otherwise - gain Apple in the long run? It could establish itself as a niche player - a high end boutique brand, perhaps, but could it muscle itself onto store shelves the same way that competitors like Samsung, LG and Vizio, or long-time players in the field like Sony and Panasonic, have?

Stay the course

It's a smarter play for Apple to continue to to refine the black box with software updates, then roll out a new generation as it makes sense with new features like UHDTV support as it becomes something more consumers are looking for.

While more and more televisions are coming from the factory with "smart" capabilities like connecting to the Internet and to services like Netflix, many consumers continue to use them as simple dumb terminals for their set top boxes and their streaming devices.

For as long as that's the case, Apple's best strategy for the Apple TV remains building a black box that can connect to any of them, instead of building its own branded television. Compared to a television, the Apple TV is almost an impulse buy, and it capitalizes on the halo effect that continues to drive consumers to new Apple products.

Would you buy an Apple-branded television if they make one? Is the Apple TV a better solution? Or is the whole thing stupid? Tell me what you think in the comments.

Yoga for Fitness

Yoga isn?t about what ?everyone else? is doing. It?s about feeling each pose for yourself. It?s about getting better at your movements with each session.? That?s hard to do when you?re worried about the person next to you with the $200 yoga mat and the designer yoga jammies that probably cost as much as your entire wardrobe. That?s the number one thing that stopped most of my clients from doing yoga before they started working with me. They were embarrassed about doing the yoga poses?in front of other people. San Francisco 49ers NFL tickets are a steal...for now

Vivid Seats

A snapshot of National Football League average home game ticket prices for the 2013-2014 season, according to ticket marketplace Vivid Seats.

The looming National Football League season will be the San Francisco 49ers' last at Candlestick Park, and cost-conscious fans might want to get in on the action now.

According to an analysis by online ticket marketplace Vivid Seats, the Niners have the No. 13 most expensive average home game tickets out of the league's 32 teams. But if the team's season ticket and seat license prices at the new Levi's Stadium are any indication, expect the team to rank higher next year.

Across the NFL, the average ticket price for the 2013 season is $203.75. For home games at Candlestick Park this upcoming season, 49ers' tickets are going for an average $216, according to Vivid Seats.

That's much lower than the top teams for home game ticket sales, like the New England Patriots, which are going for an average of $431. However, Niners games are significantly higher than the Oakland Raiders' average $120 ticket price, which sends the East Bay team to the bottom of the spendy list, at No. 29.

The 49ers' new $1.3 billion Santa Clara stadium project ? slated for completion next summer ? has already generated more than $800 million in revenue from early seat license and box sales.

Seat license costs at Levi's Stadium, which are not figured into average ticket prices, range from $2,000 to $12,000. Season ticket prices range from $850 to $2,000 or more for suites.

For those keeping score, a ticket to the 49ers' game at the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 15 is currently the No. 11 most expensive single game of the upcoming season, with tickets averaging $418, according to Vivid Seats.

Paleontologists Discover, Mock, New Dinosaur Species

Everybody stop what you're doing and grab your inner child: paleontologists have discovered what they're saying is a previously unknown breed of dinosaur in southern Utah. Meet the?Nasutoceratops, whose name translates to what is more or less a playground insult: "big nosed horned face." It gets worse for our new friend: apparently, the big nose that seems to be his defining feature probably didn't help him smell. In fact, the researchers who identified the new species don't know what it's for at all. The study's lead author Scott Sampson said:?

The jumbo-sized schnoz of?Nasutoceratops?likely had nothing to do with a heightened sense of smell?since olfactory receptors occur further back in the head, adjacent to the brain?and the function of this bizarre feature remains uncertain.

Leave?Nasutoceratops alone. This?Cretaceous period?herbivore, likely a relative of the Triceratops, used the massive horns protruding from his skull (which many think resemble those of a cow's) to either attract females, or fight off rivals.?

RELATED: BPA Exposure Just as Bad as Mercury; A New Big, Feathery Dinosaur

Sampson and his team are working in one of the last relatively unexplored expanses where dinosaurs, in the past, were known to be plentiful. He told National?Geographic,?who got an early look at the study, that what is now southern Utah was at one point the continent of?Laramidia. Laramidia, likely the only home?Nasutoceratops ever knew, was an isolated paradise, separated by a seaway from Appalachia, which comprised more or less the rest of the U.S. that wasn't underwater at the time. Sampson depicted?Laramidia?as a "gorgeous beachfront property, like wall-to-wall?Jamaica," adding, "Just put up a few electric fences to keep out?Tyrannosaurus?and you'd be all set."

RELATED: The Oldest Dinosaur Embryo Ever Found Still Can't Make 'Jurassic Park' Real

?Nasutoceratops would have fit right in on?Laramidia: while the new discovery has some unusual features for a?ceratopsid, most of its distant relatives looks pretty, well, distinctive, too.??The new dino's closest relative, as far as the researchers can tell, is the?Avaceratops.?

Rich Entrepreneur Outsider Michael Bloomberg Jack Hidary Enters Mayor's Race

Last month, The New York Times dubbed tech mogul Jack D. Hidary "a kind of Bloomberg 2.0: socially progressive, fiscally reserved, and digitally savvy." And now that he's ready to announce his candidacy as an independent, the comparisons continue. Hidary, who founded the tech career site Dice.com and now runs Samba Energy "is offering himself up as a Bloomberg for the post-Bloomberg era, with a dose of personal charisma and charm the current mayor lacked when he entered politics in 2001," The Times' Michael Barbaro and Michael Grynbaum wrote on Tuesday. He's made a pet issue out of encouraging taxis to go hybrid, and according to Gotham Schools he's interested in "business development, education reform, and the technology sector." He's also rounding up quite the campaign team on his own dime, another Bloomberg parallel.

Hidary is setting himself up as an alternative to a crowded field, assembling heavy hitters to get his message across: Howard Dean campaign manager Joe Trippi, Bloomberg finance lawyer Kenneth A. Gross, Clinton media strategist Richard Strauss, and Chris Christi adviser CampaignGrid have all signed on. Since he's running as an independent, Hidary figures he has until the primaries in September before people really start following the race in earnest. So until then the plan is to raise funds and support, build his team, and (presumably) keep encouraging the "Bloomberg 2.0" image in the press.

Check out the campaign video:

Rep. Steve King: ?Illegal aliens? invaded my office

King complained about an immigration protest. (Twitter)

Rep. Steve King, a Republican from Iowa and the House's leading immigration hawk, complained Thursday about young immigrants who had shown up to protest his bill that would defund President Barack Obama's deferred action program.

King wrote on Twitter that "20 brazen self professed illegal aliens have invaded my DC office. Obama's lawless order gives them de facto immunity from U.S. law."

The congressman sponsored a measure to defund Obama's 2012 executive action that gave young unauthorized immigrants relief from deportation and a work permit if they attend or graduate high school and have no criminal record. The amendment to quash the program passed the Republican-controlled House last week, but is all but certain never to make it out of the Senate.

The Senate is currently debating a sweeping immigration reform bill that would legalize millions of immigrants, and the House's vote on deferred action was seen as a parting shot on the issue. King asked two of the main champions of the reform bill?Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. John McCain?to "guard" the door to his office in his plaintive tweets.

One of the leaders of the protest, Julieta Garibay, said the protesters?dressed in caps and gowns and carrying signs that said "future teacher," "future lawyer" and other professions?wanted to remind King that "we are here to contribute to the country we love."

"The House GOP has a choice: Will they stand with Steve King and his push to return to deporting Dreamers, or will they do the right thing and lead on immigration reform for our families?" Garibay said in a statement.

Euro fund chief: do without IMF in long term

(AP) ? The head of Europe's bailout fund says the region should eventually aim to do without help from the International Monetary Fund.

Klaus Regling's comments in Friday's edition of Germany's daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung add to recent hints from other European policymakers that the bloc should aim to handle future emergencies on its own.

Over the past three years, the European Union's executive Commission, the European Central Bank and IMF have worked together to manage the bailouts of Greece and three others. Tensions have recently risen, notably after the IMF voiced its concerns over the European approach to the Greek rescue.

Regling was quoted as saying the IMF's expertise is still needed "in the short and medium term."

5 things to note about NSA surveillance programs

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Edward Snowden identified himself Sunday as a principal source behind revelations about the National Security Agency's sweeping phone and Internet surveillance programs. Five things to know about the disclosures:

? THE PROGRAMS: The NSA has been collecting the phone records of hundreds of millions of Americans each day, creating a database through which it can learn whether terror suspects have been in contact with people in the U.S. While the NSA program does not listen to actual conversations, the revelation of the program reopened the post-Sept. 11 debate about privacy concerns versus heightened measures to protect against terrorist attacks. Separately, an Internet scouring program, code-named PRISM, allows the NSA and FBI to tap directly into nine U.S. Internet companies to gather all Internet usage ? audio, video, photographs, emails and searches. The effort is designed to detect suspicious behavior that begins overseas.

? THE LEAKER: A 29-year-old high school dropout who worked for consulting giant Booz Allen Hamilton has claimed responsibility for disclosing the programs to The Guardian and The Washington Post. Snowden told The Guardian that he enlisted in the Army, was dismissed after breaking both legs during a training exercise and later got a job as a security guard at a covert intelligence facility in Maryland. He says he later joined the CIA and was posted under diplomatic cover in Geneva, Switzerland. He later worked for consulting companies and claims he spent four years working as a contractor with the NSA. In a statement, Booz Allen Hamilton said he has worked for them less than three months.

? THE REASON: In interviews with The Guardian and the Washington Post, Snowden said he felt compelled to disclose the program because he wanted "to inform the public as to that which is done in their name and that which is done against them." Snowden says he also was disillusioned with CIA tactics to recruit spies in Geneva and was disappointed President Barack Obama did not do more to curtail surveillance programs after his 2008 election.

? THE REACTION: The government's response was fierce. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said the disclosures were "gut-wrenching to see this happen because of the huge, grave damage it does to our intelligence capabilities" and asked the Justice Department to investigate. Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the journalists who reported on the programs don't "have a clue how this thing works; neither did the person who released just enough information to literally be dangerous." Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said she wanted to see the leaker prosecuted. Rep. Peter King, a Republican on the intelligence panel, called for Snowden to be "extradited from Hong Kong immediately." John Negroponte, a former director of national intelligence, called it "an outright case of betrayal of confidences and a violation of his nondisclosure agreement." Yet some also said Snowden's revelations should spark a debate about the secret programs and civil liberties. "I am not happy that we've had leaks and these leaks are concerning, but I think it's an opportunity now to have a discussion about the limits of surveillance, how we create transparency, and above all, how we protect Americans' privacy," said Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo.

? THE CONSEQUENCES: The NSA has asked the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation, and Snowden could face decades in prison if convicted on espionage or treason charges. The Obama administration has been particularly aggressive in prosecuting those who disclose classified information. Snowden has fled to Hong Kong, a former British colony that is now a semi-autonomous region of China. Snowden says he chose the city because he expects leaders could resist pressure from the U.S. government. Snowden also says he would "ask for asylum from any countries that believe in free speech and oppose the victimization of global privacy." Hong Kong has an extradition treaty with the United States that took force in 1998, according to the U.S. State Department website.

Director of Sierra Club explains rationale behind ... - Bike Portland

Sierra Club Oregon Chapter
Director Brian Pasko.

Our story last week about a lawsuit against the Timberline Mountain Bike Park has sparked a lot of conversation. Several people commented and contacted me to express concerns that I failed to offer adequate context to the story. The Sierra Club and other environmental groups that have signed on as plaintiffs to the lawsuit, strongly maintain that their stance is not about bikes at all. Rather, they say their concerns are about the broader environmental impacts, the private developer that will construct the park, and a feeling that the U.S. Forest Service has not fulfilled its obligations within the public process around the project.

In our story last week, I included an email from Kenji Sugahara, the executive director of the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association, to Brian Pasko, the director of the Sierra Club's Oregon chapter. In that email, Sugahara questioned the Sierra Club's actions and requested their immediate withdrawal from the lawsuit. Today I want to share Pasko's response to Sugahara because I it adds some important context to this debate (emphases mine):

Hi Kenji,

Thank you very much for this note and for your past support of the Sierra Club's work in Oregon. I want to assure you that the Sierra Club did not approach this litigation lightly, nor should our involvement in this lawsuit imply that we oppose increasing the level of mountain bike recreation opportunities on the Mountain.

We chose to engage in this lawsuit because we believe that this particular proposal is not appropriately located and the environmental costs vs. recreational benefits are just too high. In contrast, we chose not to oppose a similar proposal on Mount Bachelor because its location is much better suited to this type of bike park.

Additionally, we appreciate and admire IMBA's exceptional trail maintenance work. It is our understanding that the trails on this proposed bike park would not be trails open to the public and managed by IMBA or other volunteer trail crews, but would instead be maintained by the private owners at Timberline for their economic gain.

More importantly, we are pursuing this lawsuit in part because we believe that the Forest Service has fundamentally failed in its obligation to fully evaluate the potential for additional mountain bike recreational opportunities in the Mount Hood National Forest. We too are disappointed that the Mountain bike and environmental communities are being divided over a debate about the location of a single privately-owned bike park, when instead we should be engaged in a collaborative effort to substantially expand the publicly accessible mountain bike trail system forest-wide.

The Sierra Club believes that the Forest Service should be carrying out a robust analysis and implementing a formal stakeholder process to expand mountain bike opportunities on our national forests. We are keenly interested in working with the mountain bike community to achieve this goal. In fact, we are meeting with leaders in IMBA and others in the next few weeks to discuss this and how we can move forward together.

I appreciate your concerns about our involvement in this litigation, and hope that I have given you some assurances that the Sierra Club is very interested in partnering with the mountain bike community to convince the Forest Service to do better recreational planning on the Mount Hood National Forest. I hope that this is the start of a continuing dialogue with you and others about how we can work together to make that a reality.

Thanks,
Brian
