Green Bay Real Estate | Black Forest Restaurant To Become Harley ...

HOWARD ? The Black Forest restaurant was sold Thursday and will become a Harley-Davidson dealership.

Rick Vandervest and Eric Vandervest bought the 4.75-acre site at 1966 Velp Ave. from Paul, Linda and Todd Kaczrowski. They will convert it into a Harley-Davidson retail and service center, but Black Forest will remain open until it fulfills commitments to scheduled events.

The Vandervests own Vandervest Custom Cycles, 1800 Velp Ave., a used motorcycle dealership, and Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo, which they?ve owned for 13 years.

Rick Vandervest said they hope to open the dealership in spring 2012.

Black Forest will remain open as a full-service restaurant on Wednesdays through Sundays until Aug. 28, and as a bar and for wedding receptions on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 29.

?That clears me up,? said Paul Kaczrowski.

Vandervest said the first floor of the building, including a planned addition, will be retail and service areas. He said they are considering keeping the banquet hall on the second floor and will keep the patio in the rear of the building.

?We had somebody hold a wedding in our store in Peshtigo,? he said of potential banquet hall business.

The Kaczrowskis acquired the former Rustic Rail in March 2008 as a basic supper club and banquet venue. Kaczrowski said economic conditions and time demands were too severe to continue the operation.

?I?m going back to selling real estate,? he said.

Kaczrowski also owns Prestige Realty, and owns 8 acres adjacent to the restaurant.

Vandervest said they looked at several sites around Green Bay, but when they learned of the Howard site through Pete Roland of Bay Lakes Commercial Real Estate, they decided that was the place to be.

?The value of Highway 41 is priceless. I think it?s going to be a great spot for a dealership,? he said.

Road construction, including a new intersection with roundabouts at Velp Avenue and U.S. 41, will not impact the site, according to the state Department of Transportation, Vandervest said.

Smet Construction Services will handle the renovation and expansion of the building. Construction will begin as soon as permits are granted. He said a soft opening is scheduled for spring and a grand opening when the riding season begins.
